About the Course
Valley Craft Studio is a fully equipped studio, set in the heart of picturesque Constable Country on the Essex/Suffolk border. Founded by Fiona, with her art degree and years of crafting experience, the studio was set up as a space for herself and others to create beautiful artwork.
Here at Valley Craft Studio we offer you the chance to get away from it all while trying your hand at creating something unique. Our courses offer you (and your friends) the perfect opportunity to escape and relax. Why not extend the relaxation and spend the whole day in the local area - Flatford (setting of John Constable's 'The Hay Wain') is just 2 minutes’ drive from the studio. Here you can soak up the natural beauty of the surrounding area and be inspired for your mosaic masterpiece.
We offer a short evening/afternoon course where you can create a set of beautiful coasters and try your hand at the art of mosaic. No previous mosaic experience is necessary. You will leave with your completed coasters, plus the necessary materials and instructions to grout them at home. (We do offer a grouting and return service for a nominal fee.) Our short mosaic course will guide you through the complete process of creating your mosaic - from initial design, using the specialist tools through to completion.
Extra dates can be arranged upon request (minimum of 2 persons needed for course to run).
If booking with a CraftCourses voucher for part or all of the course fee, please fill in the contact form above or telephone us. Your voucher code must be provided at the point of booking.
What's included in the price?
All tools and materials are provided. If you have something specific which you would like to incorporate into your design (crockery, tiles, jewellery, buttons, etc,) then please bring it along. Bear in mind that we are creating coasters so materials need to be fairly flat or there will be some spillages! It's great if you already have an idea of what you want to do, but if you don't then we can look at it together on the night!
Lots of tea, coffee and cake are provided.
My mum and I had a great few hours making coasters!
Learnt a new skill and had a few giggles, plenty of tea and cake too!
Would definitely recommend.

My mum and I took this course today, and brought home two coasters each which we were really pleased with! Fiona is very patient and helpful, going through the various types of tiles and how to cut them, loads of colour choices as well- would recommend this course!

A thoroughly enjoyable evening. Fiona was a fantastic teacher and helped with all aspects of the mosaics - from design to finish. I had no previous experience and had great fun choosing the tiles and learning how to cut and fit them. An inspiring and relaxed evening with two coasters accomplished too.

I really enjoyed making the coasters, the whole process was explained well and no previous experience with this medium is needed. Once I decided on my design and chose the colours of tiles I wanted to use (there are a lot!) I found the process very therapeutic, cutting the tiles to size and then fitting them on a little jig saw puzzle of my very own! Fiona was a great teacher and her own designs are a great inspiration! I highly recommend this course!

We had a brilliant evening at the Night on the Tiles. Fi explained really well how to cut the mosaics, possible designs and helped us when needed. She had all the colours you could want in different shades. We both made a few coasters each which my mum and I were so chuffed with. We’d both recommend Fi’s classes and that evening course.
