Class level: 1 Introductory, suitable for those with no previous experience and a great taster for those taking their first steps into a wonderfully creative field. The aim of this course is to teach you the basics of silver jewellery making. By the end of the course, you will have covered all the basics of traditional metalsmithing. You will learn all the basic techniques - like how to measure, pierce (saw) your metal, anneal your metal and learn the different types of soldering techniques. You will also learn how to texture your metal, using tools and hammers, and how to file and polish your work. You will also learn how to set a cabochon with a bezel/rub over setting. By the end of the 6 weeks, you will have a very good understanding of the basics of jewellery making, whilst also completing several pieces of jewellery in copper, and a piece in sterling silver. You should be experienced by then to be able to make chunky chains, rings, bangles, pendants, brooches, earrings, etc. The course runs for 2 hours each week. We do sometimes overrun to allow students to complete their work. This course runs in the evenings, but we do also have Beginner's classes in the day. Ages 16 upwards. You are never too young or too old to learn a new skill. This course runs in the evenings, but we do also have Beginner's classes during the day. All the materials used are included in the price. You will also receive a piece of silver to make your final piece. An unlimited supply of tea, coffee and biscuits available throughout the session There is plenty of parking available at the venue

Tracy Hills is an award winning jewellery designer and maker based in Liverpool in the United Kingdom. She has BA (Hons) degree in 3 Dimensional Design in Metal Work and Jewellery from the University for Creative Arts in Farnham, Surrey. Tracy is passionate about passing on traditional jewellery and silver smith skills.
