About the Course
4 Seasons Drawing Course
This course is based from the home studio of Portfolio Oomph in Midlothian and the lovely grounds of the Newbattle Abbey College and surrounding Forestry Commission Scotland woodland.
We are aiming to develop our own personal responses to the landscape through selecting and editing, taking risks and being adventurous not necessarily to reproduce the landscape exactly as we see it. You will discover a range of unpredictable and exciting results.
We are running classes on a Tuesday and a Wednesday, therefore a booking can be made for 8 sessions on the Tuesdays stated OR 8 sessions on the Wednesdays stated. You cannot mix and match.
The sessions are grouped into 2 days for each season throughout 2014, 10am - 4pm.
Group sizes are limited to 4 which ensures plenty of one to one tuition whilst also allowing chance to learn and interact with your peers.
Jan 14 (Tues) or 15 (Wed) - Form, structure, space; presentations, demonstrations, working on location.
Jan 21 (Tues) or 22 (Wed) - Development of work in the studio undertaken on location the previous session.
April 22 (Tues) or 23 (Wed) - Life, regeneration, colour; presentations, demonstrations working on location.
April 29 (Tues) or 30 (Wed) - Development of work in the studio undertaken on location the previous session.
July 8 (Tues) or 9 (Wed) - Colour, harvest; presentations, demonstrations, working on location.
July 15 (Tues) or 16 (Wed) - Development of work in the studio undertaken on location the previous session.
Oct 21 (Tues) or 22 Wed) - Colour, decomposing; presentations, demonstrations, working on location.
Oct 28 (Tues) or 29 (Wed) - Development of work in the studio undertaken on location the previous session.
Starting the day with a studio based presentation and demonstrations you will then work on location with black and white materials in sketchbooks and on paper. You will enjoy the freedom and energy that working directly in the landscape can offer with layering of inks, charcoal, conté, black and white acrylics and oil bars to capture the structures, spaces and atmosphere. Please bring a camera if you have one.
Warm suitable clothing and footwear is essential as we will be on location even in winter.
If there is rain then alternative arrangements will be made.
All ages from 16 years upwards. All levels of expertise including beginners.
