About the Course
There are 3 students on this course and Angie introduces them to the wonderful occupations of either upholstery, soft furnishings or loose covers so that you can go home and transform your homes. She has been teaching for nearly 16 years from her home just outside Matlock on the edge of the peak District and aims to find a happy balance between learning and enjoyment.
Some suggestions as to suitable projects are as follows:
Upholstery - a fireside, winged armchair or a bedroom chair, traditional dining chair, headboard, footstool (small to very large and we can provide frames at additional cost) are some suggestions. projects can be traditional or modern. Please note that larger projects are unlikely to be completed in 3 short days. to start off with it is better to bring one or more smaller projects. Please consult Angie if you are unsure what is suitable.
Soft furnishings - a loose cover for a small bedroom chair without arms, a small pair of curtains, one or more roman blinds, scatter or box cushions, pelmets, bedspreads and valances etc. space is limited so no huge curtains.
If booking with a CraftCourses voucher for part or all of the course fee, please fill in the contact form above. Your voucher code must be provided at the point of booking.
What's included in the price?
Tea, coffee, homemade cakes and biscuits are included in the course fee but please bring your own lunch. You need to bring sufficient covering fabric for your projects but other upholstery and soft furnishing sundries can be purchased form our stock and must be paid for at the end of the 3 days. If you are in doubt please contact Angie by phone or email.
I attended a long weekend course with Angie a few years ago and have been hooked on upholstery ever since! I upholstered a child's wing-back chair over the four days, learning a multitude of skills and techniques, covering both traditional and modern upholstery. I was thrilled with the finished item. I took away a lot of knowledge as the basis for taking on lots more projects.
As well as feeling welcomed into Angie's home (which is beautiful) and being provided with amazing home-cooked biscuits, cakes and meals, I also enjoyed seeing and learning from the projects that the other students worked on. I'm now a regular on Angie's weekly courses!

We attended a one day course, luckily just the two of us and Angie which meant we got almost 1 to 1 attention.
Excellent course - very friendly, Angie gave us the attention we needed and not any more than that, let us get on with things she felt we could do. Interspersed talking to us about our own projects with insights into Upholstery, history, good examples of what others were doing. Tea and coffee and cakes on tap. We didn’t stop for lunch we were enjoying ourselves far too much.
Angie really is a very good teacher. And we had a fun time!

I attended the 3 day soft furnishing course after deciding that I needed a roman blind for my spare room and "Why don't I learn to make it myself?". I hadn't done any sewing since school - some 30+ years ago - what could go wrong?
Angie was an absolute delight and took my lack of knowledge in her stride. She is such an enthusiastic and patient teacher and is happy to tailor her teaching methods to the student - one lady on the course struggled to visualise things and so Angie encouraged her to make her own templates - marvellous.
The setting is gorgeous and the atmosphere in the workroom is really relaxing with the stove burning and the dog luxuriating in front of it. I learnt a great deal over the 3 days and left with a thirst for more knowledge. I shall definately be signing up for another course in the future.

Having now attended several of these courses (and yes I am driven to return over and over again) my experiences have been nothing less than a total joy. Angie is a superb teacher; the people with whom I have shared these courses have been a wonderful mix of backgrounds yet very easy to gel with as we all have an instant shared interest; the classroom, view and surroundings are stunning (you will want to move in) and there is such a diverse choice of projects to bring that there is nothing that Angie cannot teach you...As a guy do I feel intimidated spending so long in the company of only women? Not at all, I chance a joke from time to time but defuse it by doing as I'm told...!!! Only joking of course, you'll love it...

Really great course. Would highly recommend There are no more that four people on the course so Angie is always on hand to help. She’s very experienced and certainly knows what she’s teaching. A very good teacher. I’ve attended daytime and weekend courses. The home cooked food is fabulous and whatever course you do there is always homemade biscuits or cake and coffee served! Beautiful place to visit too. Lots to do around the area if you’re staying over and the room where the course is has breathtaking views across the valley. I’ve learnt a lot from Angie. Fab course, thanks

Angie is an excellent tutor . She has always been extremely and tirelessly interested in and helpful with any of my projects. The food on the long day weekend courses is superbly cooked by Carl, Angie’s. Husband. Can’t review this with anything less than 5*
