About the Course
In Design Studios throughout the World, a Car, Van, Truck or Bus 3D design is still developed using clay models, which are crafted or refined by a team of skilled modellers. Scale and Full-size Clay models are used for both Exterior & Interior designs.
The ‘Super-Clay’ used by the professional differs greatly from many other clays. It is soft when heated, and soon cools to become easy to sculpt with knife, wire tools or rakes. It can be finished with texture, completely smooth or can be painted or foiled. Furthermore once used it can be reused many times without losing its qualities. This makes it ideal for models or try-outs, which makes it more durable than plasticine, and less messy than plaster.
Our new Clay Modelling Introduction Class is hosted by internationally renowned designer Steve Harper in the SHADO Design Studio in Paignton, Devon. It has been especially created for those who wish to explore your their own creativity, find a new more versatile material for many possible applications and familiarise themselves with those skills used by Design Clay Modellers .
The ‘Personal’ tuition on the Course offers you the chance to practice a well proven process, enabling you to gain knowledge of the specialist tools & techniques used by Automotive clay modellers, then let you develop your own skills.
A typical Curriculum for the Modelling Introduction Class is as follows:
During the 2 days you could learn to:
prepare and pre-shape a foam core or wire skeleton for your model
clay up using datum points or to a primary form
use sweeps and curves to create & sculpt the model
Add details and features into the surfaces
