About the Course
Come and enjoy a 1 day specialist hand embroidery workshop with Sara Dennis, our Royal School of Needlework trained tutor. We will sew a silver tup using goldwork techniques on boiled wool. The course will cover the basics of goldwork technique, working with Japanese thread, purl, chipping and kid. It will be taught hands on, demonstration and instruction. At the end of the session you will be familiar with the application of working with metalic thread whilst creating a stylish cherry stone heat pad.
All levels of stitchers are welcome and the kit comes with everything you need to finish a cherry stone hottie.
After a career in nursing and the forces, Sara gained a first class degree in Art History and Museum Studies from Lancaster University, where she won an Alumni Art Prize. She graduated from the three year full-time Royal School of Needlework Future Tutor Programme in 2017 winning the Outstanding Achievement Award. Having led a peripatetic life, she has collected many experiences and influences. Now settling in Lancaster, she remains drawn towards the ethnic and eclectic.
Sara has worked on several high profile RSN commissions: an evening gown designed by Nicholas Oakwell Couture for the GREAT Britain Campaign, ‘Magna Carta (An Embroidery)’ designed by artist Cornelia Parker for the 800th anniversary of the signing of the Magna Carta, the Game of Thrones ‘Hardhome Embroidery’ and Burberry’s ‘Makers House’ in partnership with The New Craftsmen. She has exhibited at Hampton Court Palace and Alexandra Palace, and created a bespoke commission for St Olave’s Church in the City of London.
As well as Day Classes, the Certificate and Diploma, Summer Intensive Certificate and Degree modules at Hampton Court Palace, Sara has also taught at the Victoria & Albert Museum, The British Library and The Royal Free Hospital. She is currently volunteering for Combat Stress and SSAFA.
