About the Course
We're excited to host the well-known wire sculptor, Chris Moss, at Swallows & Artisans. Chris uses a variety of metal materials, including new and recylced wire and mesh, to create stunning 3D sculptures particularly wild and domestic animals and birds. Chris has a love of nature and all her work reflects a detailed study of the anatomy and character of her subjects. Chris works on commissions and exhibits her work across the UK.
In this one day workshop you'll learn how to make a chicken wire sculpture of the ever popular pheasant. With lots of help and guidance, and using simple techniques, you'll make a sculpture of about 14 inches high that's suitable for display in the garden or indoors. Starting with a wire template and adding shape layer by layer you'll build your own fully three dimensional pheasant.
If booking with a CraftCourses voucher for part or all of the course fee, please fill in the contact form above or telephone us. Your voucher code must be provided at the point of booking.
What's included in the price?
This relaxed event takes place at our inspiring, purpose-built creative workshop located in a spectacular setting overlooking beautiful Coniston Water in the Lake District. To view more photos take a look at our Facebook or Instagram pages under @swallowsandartisans
We will provide a healthy lunch along with all refreshments and some sweet treats! All tools, materials and gloves are supplied for the duration of the workshop. Please wear an apron or casual clothes as wire can cause snags to precious textiles. Bring your specs if required for close work similar to reading or sewing. It isn't essential to have previous experience but please be aware that working with wire and making the numerous repetitive movements can sometimes be hard on fingers and wrists. Please do not hesitate to ask if you have any queries about this. Please let me know if you have any dietary requirements.
After your workshop why not stay and relax at our adjacent property, Lanehead, the historic home of artist William G Collingwood and where Arthur Ransome taught William's grandchildren to sail in Swallow II and provided the inspiration for the book Swallows & Amazons.
Our accommodation is exclusive to Swallows & Artisans guests and their friends/families. Our room sizes are mixed and sleep 2 to 6 people and the majority have lake and mountain views. A breakdown of each room can be provided. Please contact me for rates and availability.
Refunds are unavailable but tickets can be transferred to an alternative date upon request.
