For this basket we will use the pre-made and dried base provided to eliminate any reverse dome problems when we stake up.
We will use 18 stakes (thick 5ft or thin 6ft Browns) slyped on the back and inserted slype down pricked up and then tied in a swan’s neck before we weave a 4 rod pull down wale in front of 3 behind 1 starting on adjusted tips.
After one lap we will do a butt to butt join and continue for another ½ lap.
We will then start adding in 3 ft. rods every time the weave goes behind an upright and we will roll the weave as we are working.
We complete the sides using this 4 rod rope wale. Shape is controlled by the ties and we will border with a 4 behind 1 rod border.
If you want to make a base for your next basket then you need to stop your weave at 2.30pm irrespective of how high you have got up the sides as we need to border the top to leave 1.5 hours to make a base.
We will make a 3 through 3 base and using a pairing weave out to 7” diameter. This the student will keep for their next basket.
The course is taught in an unheated barn so warm clothing is essential.
