Weaving unspun plant fibres to make baskets is an ancient traditional craft practised across the world. Willow, reeds, pine straw, animal hair, hide or even baleen from the jaw of a whale can all be used to create useful and elegant baskets. The art of baskets may be simple and quick or highly intricate and decorative - this is a very satisfying craft to learn and practise!

This course is suitable for those who already have some basketry skills. It is not a beginners course because of the complexity of the roped border and handle and the decorative looped layer of weaving and roped foot track. Using small sizes of willow in natural colours (most of these from Hilary's collection of varieties), plus willow from Somerset, colour combinations and mixes of brown, buff and white willow are all possible. The course is held in a lovely barn overlooking a Devon orchard.
