Craft courses on Sky TV News
Sky TV News contacted the CraftCourses website last week looking to film craft courses to go alongside their news report on the campaign launched by the Crafts Council to get craft subjects back on school timetables.
The ‘Education Manifesto’ outlined in a letter to The Times newspaper and launched in the House of Commons on the 10th November highlights the need to safeguard the UK as a world leader in craft.
“In the last five years participation in craft-related GCSEs fell by 25% and the number of higher education craft courses fell by 46%.” Our Future is in the Making: An Education Manifesto for Craft and Making, Crafts Council.
The Sky News team visited Lumiere de Londres candle makers and teaching school in Woolwich, London, on Wednesday. The film crew took part in a candle making workshop taught by Sakeena Edoo, who has seen a big increase in the interest in her courses over the last few years.
Here at the CraftCourses website, which launched in 2012, we process several hundred enquiries each week from interested students looking to book craft courses across the UK.
We fully support this campaign. Craft skills need to be practiced and passed on for the good of not just our economy, but our health and happiness!
